It's happening. A photobooth will be had at our upcoming wedding. It took some convincing from the boy, but if I'm able to pull off the simple, calming, neutral backdrop in this photo - we are a go with the ribbon curtain of fun.

Pretty Prettiness from Free People

I'm going to have to start coming up with better Blog titles with the abundance of prettiness out there, however this struck me as particularly beautiful. Green Crystal pendant from Free People. So pretty - it's sold out.

Bringin it back

After a year off from blogging on Blogger, I'm bringing it back, old school style. I made an attempt to carry my blogging on within Tumblr, however I am feeling that right now good old fashioned Blogger is going to treat me the best. I'm going to be revamping things, as over the past year I became engaged and have become consumed with all things weddings...in the best of ways I suppose. It has ignited a bit event design and paper good passion which I hope to explore on here. Along with that I have become an avid pinner on Pintrest, so there will surely be plenty of Pinnable images that will pop up on here, thanks to that amazing community. My love of the blogging world has only since grown from the last time I stopped by, so I'm excited to start anew.

Creative Chandeliers

I was looking at AOL this evening (waiting for Trick or Treaters - which so far has just meant watching the World Series and eating candy in my PJ's) and ran across this gem of a chandelier... just the treat made of treats I wanted to see! Entirely made of gummi bears...

It got me thinking what other crazy chandeliers might exist out there. And there were some CRAZY ones I came across, but I actually really like the design aesthetic of all of these winners below:

This monstrosity is made of the thing every man would fear. Yep. It's a whole bunch of tampons. 

I know it's not really a DIY, made from unique materials, but I love this chandelier and would have it hanging in my office any day!

Pretty great for a designers office - epson ink cartridges.

For the music lover... a lamp made from old gramophones. 

Plastic hangers. Not so sure how this just doesn't melt. 

Paper clips. Brilliant. 

Light bulbs!

Not that I'm a total Apple-head (ok maybe I am - but I don't hate a PC!) But you have to appreciate their materials and clean lines - even in their packaging. This is made from all Apple material styrofoam. Even their garbage looks good!

Delicious and Candy Coated

I came across Konzuk many a month ago when I was obsessing over finding the ultimate amazing ring with my boyfriend. (No, not wedding rings, although I saw many a picture of people using these as their wedding bands and I will say - I'm not opposed). I adore these stainless steel and powder coated rings and they come in all sorts of super fun colors. They also have a beautiful line of necklaces & bracelets with the same look. It's happy jewelry. 

Malagana created the topsy turvy color lined shelves, (or to get specific - the Equilibrium bookcase). I want to go to there...in blue please. Many thanks to {CONTEMPORIST} for bringing the bookcases to my attention.

Pretty lady, pretty hair.

I have become somewhat obsessed over Carey Mulligan these past couple of months. Saw her in Never Let Me Go and she proved to be pretty amazing. I say this and have yet to see An Education which is supposed to be ridiculously incredible. Needless to say - I think she's a super talent - and even more importantly - she has the best hair. Ever. I want it. I want my face to be her face so that I could have her hair. Can we work on that science?...the whole face borrowing thing?

Electrolux Design Lab

Electrolux holds an annual competition for industrial design students to come up with technologies and creative ideas for the future of household appliances. It seems out of everything home related, people are mostly interested in the design of the kitchen - how to make it green, how to make things more efficient and  how to make you feel like you are living in a sci fi movie.







This fridge, which seems to be the fan favorite of the competition, looks like it was created by  Nickelodeon to promote sliming. (In actuality it was created by Yuriy Dmitriev from Russia) Breaking the non-stick surface which encapsulates your food, the "fridge" suspends your treats in their own random personal space. Apparently the surface deflects UV rays and anything else that could degrade your food at a rapid pace. This means no doors, no dripping water, or escaping cold air. Just a creepy goo-front loading food keeper.  Or use it as a punching bag...

The Snail below was the big winner - heating a pot or pan wherever you like - adjusting temperatures and cooking times depending upon what's in your pot.

                                 

Then my favorite, hang up your clothes and they're instantly washed. The Clean Closet (by Michael Edenius) detects impurities and through molecular technology, removes odors and dirt. If laundry never had to exist again, my life would be so very happy.

50's Retro with SMEG

SMEG is an amazing Italian manufacturer of adorableness. If I were to ever stray from Stainless Steel or a freaky pop out of my wall claytronics kitchen - this is the route I would take. And in this very moment, it may surpass both options. I just want a ridiculously cute fridge...

Santa Monica Place

The boy & I took a trip down to the newly renovated Santa Monica Place last week. Having seen the mall morph from an indoor 80's atmospheric mall into a contemporary outdoor shopping space was pretty impressive. I was obsessed with their outdoor seating, although I couldn't get a snapshot of any of it (nor could I find any good shots online). Growing from the ground were amazing white cushioned pods, and wood paneled / white cement leaf-shaped benches that made the aesthetic of sitting even pleasing to look at. (And I tested one out - comfy!)

I went at night, so I haven't gotten the full daytime effect, but I can only imagine that the experience holds up. I haven't been a big fan of the 3rd Street Promenade the past five years or so, as it's normally filled with crazy street performers and a bizarre crowd - and while that is still there - this was a very much need revitalization of the area. Maybe they can get down to the actual beaches now and clean those up (errryuck).

The below image of the space barely does it justice. The shapes and curves of the building along with all the materials used was really quite beautiful.

Nema Workshop

A few weeks ago a couple of sites had posted this amazing coffee shop designed by Nema Workshop that I fell in love with. The idea of turning a room on its side is genius and whoever conceptualized this project is brilliant.

And then discovered some more of Nema's work ... and now I'm pretty much ready to move in.

The Future!

I remember when I was young and living way back in the 80's I was asked to depict the year 2000 through a drawing. When the double aughts rolled around, my astronaut family hanging out in outer space didn't exactly come to fruition. I'm not really too upset by the fact that I'm not living in zero gravity - but I think I might be a bit let down if the below doesn't happen. When I first saw Michaël Harboun's Living Kitchen I thought my mind was going to explode. His future kitchen is fascinating, innovative and apparently (somehow, someday) possible - which is absolutely crazy. He believes that through the use of claytronics (an advanced robotics system which is able to communicate with itself) a blank white wall can be converted into a fully functional kitchen. Need a sink? Pull it out of the wall, and draw a basin to your liking, turn the basin into a cutting board, the cutting board into a bowl, the bowl into a colander, the colander into your dinner plate. It's freaky and weird and I want one as soon as possible.
